DRC Technology and How It Can Create a Better, Stronger Wiper
What do a school janitor, a mechanic and a housekeeper all have in common? Messes.
And while the types of messes each cleans can be different, their expectations for cleaning products are similar. Each seeks a wiper that is tough yet gentle, sustainable yet affordable. That’s where DRC technology comes in.
What is DRC Technology?
Double Re-Creped (DRC) Technology is a process that enhances the strength, bulk, absorbency, softness and appearance of paper-based wipers. DRC wipers are made using a mixture of raw virgin fibers and recycled fibers. There are only two manufacturers in the world that have the proprietary core technology to make DRC wipes, wipers and towels possible. Sellars holds 20 U.S. and 33 international patents for DRC technology, and makes more grades than any company in the world. All while meeting EPA Compressive Procurement Guidelines.
How are DRC Finished Goods & Non-Wovens Made?
First, recycled paper waste is sorted and shipped to paper mills for pulping and de-inking, where they are shredded down into fibers. From there, non-recycled virgin fibers are added to the recycled fibers – increasing the maximum performance of the soon-to-be wipers – before some serious pressure is added to squeeze out any remaining water. Even more pressure is applied to the different pulp fibers, which are then pressed together to create a bond.
A synthetic latex resin is then mixed in to bind the fibers together and create a double re-crepe cellulose base, which gives them double the strength of ordinary paper towels when wet. The final product is a high-quality wiper that is made using 40% recycled fibers.
What are the Advantages of DRC Technology?
That’s quite the process! But the wipes, towels, wipers and cloths that use DRC technology are worth it (and come in different strengths and styles). Herer are the benefits of DRC Technology:
- Tough, absorbent when dry
- Strong, durable when wet
- Soft, gentle cloth-like material
- Better cost per use performance
When selecting the right wiper for the job, choose DRC Wipers from the non-woven experts at Sellars. Once you use our DRC wipers, we’re confident that you’ll never go back to ordinary paper towels. Learn more about the DRC process or shop our robust line of DRC offerings here.
